(our predictions)

Yes, 2005 IS a long way off but since we just started 2004,  we thought we'd go out on a limb with predictions for what the HOT names will be in 2005.

In no particular order, here are our predictions - be sure to come back in 2005 and see how we did!  ;-)

Some General Trends that we see for 2005:

The flower names for girls will continue to be popular.  But we predict there will be a shift from the "expected" Lily and Rose to "fresher" sounding flower names such as Iris, Poppy, Daisy & Zinnia.

Shakespearean names: For girls, Sylvia and Viola. For boys, Sebastian and Lysander

Flapper-era names like Stella, Lola and Minnie for girls.

A continuation of lesser-used Biblical names: Miriam and Lydia for girls; Gideon, Seth, Joel for boys.

We'll see an upswing among Frances and Francis and a continuing hunt for unheard-of Gaelic names--Wales may replace Ireland as the hunting grounds.  We see Gwyn and Anwen/Arwen cropping up more and more for girls.

'grandpa names' for boys - we've exhausted the unique/kreativ front and as we reach the outer limits of common sense the pendulum is starting to move back towards 'real', solid names with a bit of edge to them, something with a bit of cantankerous am-what-I-am bite to them - Vincent, Cecil, Hubert, Stanley et al to counterpoint the recent euphonics of Caden, Jaden, Jordan, Kyle, etc. 'Uncool' will be cool again ;o)

'Victorian arch' for girls - names that wear white dresses and good manners like a proud badge, that would sit well in a parlour and marry well - Daphne, Louise/Eloise/Louisa, Harriet, Millicent, Camille, Genevieve, Alice, Imogen, Amelia, Cecily/Cecilia/Cecile, Lillian, Violet/Viola, Miranda, Matilda, Lucinda, Claudia, Emmeline

'calico-n-flannel' for both - homey, rose-tinted nostalgic, casual and cuddly as a chenille throw, this one will simply gain more ground with Polly, Gracie, Cora, Daisy, Josie, Hattie, Milly, Nell, Tess, Sadie, Sophie, Leo, Sam, Harry, Fred, Eli, Ben, Charlie, George, Nate, Ned, Billy and more warming the arms of new mommies - sounds kinda grand doesn't it! :o)

"___lie" trend.  Rylie's been done for girls for a while now, but recently we're seeing more of Kylie, Wylie and recently a Tylie.  So, anything with a "__ lie" tacked on the end we predict will be trendy.

-son names for both boys and girls - , Addison, Grayson, Harrison etc...

simple, one syllable girl names - we're already moving beyond Grace to Jane and we predict Rose, Ruth and Maude on the way.

Lord of the Rings names - for girls, Arwen and Eowyn, and for boys, Rohan and Aragorn.

For girls - we'll finally move away from the "musical vowels" and all of the -iana, -ana, -ella, -ia names. With the trend turning toward Welsh names (thanks in large part to Gwyneth and little Carys) that we'll see more consonant laden names next year. Maybe names like Bronwyn, Brynn, Gwyn, maybe even more Bridgets, too.

For boys, a trend toward nature names like: River, Rock, Stone, Forest, etc.
